Danielle Roberts is the Head of the English department and a teacher of Academic English and Global Perspectives at Shanghai Thomas School. Her love of teaching began during her undergraduate studies in biology and chemistry at Truman State University in Missouri, USA, where she served as a teaching assistant and laboratory invigilator. During her undergraduate program, she participated in student teaching and high school science outreach programs to give young students a love of science. She spent a semester as a visiting student at Nanjing University, where she developed a deep interest in Chinese culture. Following her graduation in 2011, she returned to China to teach English and simultaneously earn a Masters of Education in Learning, Teaching,and Curriculum with a specialization in teaching English to speakers of other language (TESOL) from the University of Missouri (USA). Her masters research focused on the effectiveness of group work on language development in the Chinese English language classroom. Her teaching experience includes 8 years working in Nanjing for Nanjing University as a speaking and writing instructor and various international schools as an IGCSE English teacher and IELTS preparation course tutor.
